GTCC Adheres to Census Data Compliance with Canvas LMS & IntelliBoard Pro

Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is a comprehensive, public two-year college accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The College focuses on training and retraining Guilford County’s workforce and preparing students for further education.

GTCC offers more than 80 programs of study leading to associate degrees, certificates or diplomas, hundreds of professional development and personal enrichment courses, adult education classes, and workforce training for business and industry.

GTCC serves approximately 27,500 students annually. While the majority of GTCC’s credit students are from Guilford County in North Carolina, the College also enrolls students from surrounding counties, several states, and more than 81 foreign countries.

GTCC’s Challenge

In 2021, Guilford Tech made an exciting transition from Moodle to Canvas as its LMS, while continuing to comply with the census report requirements.

They appreciated the many benefits of Canvas as an LMS, although the built-in reporting function posed a challenge for generating their specific census report. While using the Canvas data API and additional programming to create this report was an option, they chose to explore more efficient solutions.

Building a Successful Learning Solution

IntelliBoard has allowed the auditing department to pull any census report for any course and any semester. Faculty also pull their own census reports within Canvas, allowing them to gather their own data quickly and efficiently.

Delivering Impact

There are 58 schools within North Carolina’s Community College System, four of which use Canvas as an LMS. In the future, GTCC hopes to see the four schools collaborate and gain cohesiveness so that when new schools move to Canvas, there is pre-existing application infrastructure and reporting.

Guilford Tech plans to work with the IntelliBoard team to share reports with different schools in the North Carolina Community College System so that different institutions that use Canvas can benefit from GTCC’s data and experience.
