SUBR Increases Student Engagement & Ensures Eligibility Requirements are Met with IntelliBoard Pro

Southern University and A&M College have a 130-year legacy of excellence in higher education. Southern University and A&M College System is the only historically black university system in America, with an enrollment of more than 15,000 students throughout five campuses in Louisiana. Students attend from 46 states and from at least 40 foreign countries.

SUBR’s Challenge

Chairs at Southern University have the ability to view the activities of faculty and encourage them to utilize Moodle more frequently. However, they were looking for ways to improve their classes, especially throughout the online classes during COVID; they wanted to see more student engagement in the activities in the various courses.

Building a Successful Learning Solution

Using IntelliBoard’s Instructor Dashboard, faculty are able to view what is occurring in their class. For example, instructors can see that students are not looking at posted videos but are participating in XYZ.

IntelliBoard allows faculty at Southern University to see where changes could be made, like incorporating discussion questions on an accompanying video.

Delivering Impact

Several faculty at SUBR have altered their course activities to include those that are more engaging, as IntelliBoard allows faculty to see where improvements can be made in their courses.

There are also instances where the athletic department at Southern University uses IntelliBoard to track athletes’ course activities. Advisors receive weekly reports on the activities of their students. One of the reports that they like is “Past Due Assignments.” They use this and other reports to ensure student eligibility requirements.

Building a Long-Term, Strategic Partnership

This summer, Southern University will have a newly formed “Freshman Academy.” The director plans to pilot the use of IntelliBoard for students enrolled in the Academy. This will be used for retention purposes.
